Malawians Prepare to Vote as Concerns Over Chakwera’s Leadership Persist

With less than 24 hours before Malawians cast their votes, discussions across the country continue to focus on the performance of President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration.
Many citizens have voiced concerns about ongoing challenges such as fuel shortages, limited access to foreign exchange, frequent power outages, and rising prices of goods and services. These issues, according to some voters, have not received adequate attention as the nation approaches the polls.
The election, scheduled for 16th September 2025, is widely anticipated as Malawians will decide who will lead the country for the next five years, up to 2030. President Chakwera, representing the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), is seeking another term. He faces competition from several opposition parties, including the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the United Transformation Movement (UTM), the United Democratic Front (UDF), and the People’s Party (PP), among others.
For many Malawians, the upcoming vote is not only about electing a leader but also about addressing the country’s pressing economic and social challenges. The outcome will reveal whether voters maintain confidence in the current government or opt for change through the opposition.
